Spinning Yarns
I've been spinning again. I've had a lot to think about lately, and spinning is a perfect meditation for me. It keeps my hands active, yet frees my mind to work out all the other stuff in my head.
This beautifully lustered fiber (below) spun up into the single ply yarn above. You can get an idea of what the 2-ply yarn will look like by that little dreadlock hanging off the spool above. It's gorgeous!
The fibre itself is a soft and silky blend of merino and tencil. It feels like Rayon. It's almost as soft as the wool from my big black dog, Maggie.
I'm almost out of the 2 fleeces I bought just over 10 years ago when I started spinning. This wool is from Patty Reedy at Rainbow Fleece Farms in New Glarus, WI. You can't quite see it in the picture, but her wool has a wonderful luster to it. It seems to sparkle. I'll try to get more from her this fall ... No one produces wool quite like her!
