Creative Cue : South

In magical correspondences, the cardinal direction of the South is symbolized by Fire and Summer. The Salamander can walk through fire and survive. It can also regenerate itself. He's the one who grows a new tail when it breaks off! The colors are hot reds and oranges--the colors of passion. The colors of the dessert. I cut him out and fused him to the firey background, and stitched flames over it.

Notes on the making : This salamander was stamped (a large foam stamp) with Soft Scrub bleach onto black fabric that faded to this really nice red under the black. (It might be Kona Cotton, but don't quote me on that.)

I made this for the Creative Cue : East. I was thinking that the sun rises in the East, that the sun is firey and hot ... but I remembered the correspondences wrong. So I guess I'll hang onto this one until Terri and Sue pick South for a cue.

Or it would work if the cue word is ever "lizard". I know it's not a lizard, but that's always the first word that pops into my head when I see one of these.
